First grade also used their critical thinking skills to help determine how to make paper ghosts spin. After making predictions and testing those predictions, we discovered our ghosts needed to be weighted (with paper clips). They also needed one arm folded forward and one back (like a helicopter). Students thoroughly enjoyed testing their ghosts!
First Grade spent the last two weeks in October researching Spiders. We began by asking questions about spiders. We then researched spiders using text sets from our school and classroom library. We completed our unit with a spider art project!

All About Mrs. SpidleHello Nathaniel Morton families! My name is Mrs. Spidle and this is my third year teaching at Nathaniel Morton Elementary. Before I joined the fabulous team at NMES, I taught first grade at Federal Furnace for three years and kindergarten for six years at Sacred Heart. I love working with children and believe in cementing their love for learning at a young age. I have an undergraduate degree in early childhood education and a master's degree in reading education. As an early childhood educator, I love teaching all subjects, but my first love is reading! I believe in cultivating a love of reading in all of my students. I love to read, and am on a mission to have a community of motivated readers in my classroom! Archives
