First graders had the opportunity to meet with their 5th Grade buddies in Mr. Carlin's class this month. During their visit, 5th graders shared their "I am" poems that they completed using Google slides, and Google docs. First graders also shared their "All About Me" books. Students were thrilled to finally meet the buddies they will be working with all year! Our goal is to meet at least once a month!

We have been busy, busy, busy in First Grade! Students have spent a good amount of time over the past two weeks familiarizing themselves with the classroom and its' tools, working on schedules and routines, and most importantly, building relationships with peers and teachers. We have also begun Reading and Writing Workshop, and I am thrilled to say I have a very enthusiastic group of readers and writers! In Math, we are exploring tools that we will be using in future lessons such as attribute blocks, base ten blocks and peg boards.
We have yet to begin 'formal homework.' Until then please encourage students to read every night for 20 minutes and practice their sight words. As always, thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night at our Open House! |
All About Mrs. SpidleHello Nathaniel Morton families! My name is Mrs. Spidle and this is my third year teaching at Nathaniel Morton Elementary. Before I joined the fabulous team at NMES, I taught first grade at Federal Furnace for three years and kindergarten for six years at Sacred Heart. I love working with children and believe in cementing their love for learning at a young age. I have an undergraduate degree in early childhood education and a master's degree in reading education. As an early childhood educator, I love teaching all subjects, but my first love is reading! I believe in cultivating a love of reading in all of my students. I love to read, and am on a mission to have a community of motivated readers in my classroom! Archives
