We were very busy during the month of November. So busy that I am finally now just getting a chance to share all of our hard work with you! For Veteran's Day this year students took some time to discuss veterans and why we are so thankful for them. After a some amazing brainstorming and a wonderful discussion, students wrote letters to veterans thanking them for protecting us and for being so brave. I then sent students' letters to A Million Thanks; an organization that distributes letters to veterans. They have currently distributed 7,623,457 letters! Wow, that's amazing! We have also been having a ton of fun in Reading Workshop! Students have been practicing reading fluently with a reading partner. In order to do this, students have been paying to close attention to clues the author gives (punctuation, bold print, etc.) Then students put their reading into action and acted like directors, telling their partner to "Cut!" when they weren't paying attention to the author's clues and saying "Action!" when they were ready. The students had a blast with this! Finally, for Thanksgiving students learned about Turkeys! Did you know that a mother turkey is called a hen? And a baby turkey is called a poult? Want to know what a father turkey is called? Ask your kiddos! They are now pros in turkey science! We also discussed the history of our town of Plymouth and the first Thanksgiving. IStudents had fun playing an interactive web game using our classroom projector. The object of the game? To answer questions in order to get the Mayflower across the Atlantic Ocean!

All About Mrs. SpidleHello Nathaniel Morton families! My name is Mrs. Spidle and this is my third year teaching at Nathaniel Morton Elementary. Before I joined the fabulous team at NMES, I taught first grade at Federal Furnace for three years and kindergarten for six years at Sacred Heart. I love working with children and believe in cementing their love for learning at a young age. I have an undergraduate degree in early childhood education and a master's degree in reading education. As an early childhood educator, I love teaching all subjects, but my first love is reading! I believe in cultivating a love of reading in all of my students. I love to read, and am on a mission to have a community of motivated readers in my classroom! Archives
