Last week, students had so much fun when our friends from Thorton Burgess came to visit the classroom! Students learned about mammals, animal tracks, what animals eat, and what their fur and skeletons look like. However, I think first graders would agree that the most exciting part was when we were able to see and pet a rabbit and a guinea pig!

In Social Studies, students discussed who MLK was, and why he was so important to our country. We also concluded that if MLK was able to solve such BIG problems with JUST his words, that we would try our best to do that too! After watching part of his famous speech made on August 28th, 1963 in Washington D.C., first graders shared and wrote about what their dreams are.
Happy New Year!!!
I hope that everyone enjoyed the holidays and was able to relax and spend some time with their family and friends. I' am happy to say first graders have come back well-rested and read to learn. A newsletter went home at the beginning of the month sharing what First Grade will be working on. We have a lot do, and are excited to be back in the swing of things! We cannot forget however all of our hard work from December. During this month students learned about the different holidays that are celebrated around the world. We discussed the Scandinavian holiday, The Feast of St. Lucia, the Mexican holiday, Los Posados, Hunnakah, and how Christmas is celebrated in Germany, Canada and the united States! Finally, we also had a very special and adorable guest come visit us on the day before break. My daughter, Lucy! Enjoy the pictures! |
All About Mrs. SpidleHello Nathaniel Morton families! My name is Mrs. Spidle and this is my third year teaching at Nathaniel Morton Elementary. Before I joined the fabulous team at NMES, I taught first grade at Federal Furnace for three years and kindergarten for six years at Sacred Heart. I love working with children and believe in cementing their love for learning at a young age. I have an undergraduate degree in early childhood education and a master's degree in reading education. As an early childhood educator, I love teaching all subjects, but my first love is reading! I believe in cultivating a love of reading in all of my students. I love to read, and am on a mission to have a community of motivated readers in my classroom! Archives
