First grade has been working very hard in the classroom! We are continuing to practice routines, and are getting to know each other. In Math, students are becoming familiar with tools they will be using later in the school year. They have been using pennies, dice, counters and more to play math games such as Top It, Penny Dice, and Number Line Hop. Ask students to show you how to play these games at home! We are dedicating the rest of September to apples! After students shared what they are already knew about apples, we took a moment to do some further research and collectively wrote our "new learning." In addition, First Graders created diagrams that depicted the different parts of an apple. In the next week or two we will begin discussing Johnny Appleseed! Open House for First Grade is tomorrow night, Thursday, September 18th. Students with a last name beginning with the letters A - K will attend from 6:00 - 6:50. Students with a last name beginning with the letters L-Z will attend from 7:10 - 8:00. Open House is in two separate sessions as our parking is limited. We thank you in advance for your cooperation. Students are welcome to the Open House as are their siblings. I am looking forward to meeting everyone tomorrow night!

All About Mrs. SpidleHello Nathaniel Morton families! My name is Mrs. Spidle and this is my third year teaching at Nathaniel Morton Elementary. Before I joined the fabulous team at NMES, I taught first grade at Federal Furnace for three years and kindergarten for six years at Sacred Heart. I love working with children and believe in cementing their love for learning at a young age. I have an undergraduate degree in early childhood education and a master's degree in reading education. As an early childhood educator, I love teaching all subjects, but my first love is reading! I believe in cultivating a love of reading in all of my students. I love to read, and am on a mission to have a community of motivated readers in my classroom! Archives
