The Tuesday before Thanksgiving parents joined our class for morning meeting, Thanksgiving stations and the Thanksgiving Feast. The students had a blast! Thank you to everyone who helped out.
We finished up October with an afternoon of Halloween crafts with parents. Later, students measured, weighed and explored a mini pumpkin with their big friends.
Recently, a NMES K parent who helps rescue marine life came to visit Kindergarten. She shared with students all of the amazing things she does a community helper.
Students completed their first unit in Reading Workshop, and to celebrate, they paraded through the school as their NMES peers cheered them on. Kindergarten kiddos have been retelling some of their 'old storybook favorites' such as The Three Billy Goats Gruff, Caps for Sale, and so many more! To celebrate all of their hard work, students created masks of their favorite character to use during the parade.
Mrs. Spidle's class is lucky enough to work with Mrs. Gannon's third grade class this year! Every couple of weeks we will get together with our Big Friends to work on a special activity. Recently students worked together on an Apple Investigation. Students graphed, measured, and stamped apples while getting to know their new friends!
Students have been busy during reading and writing workshop! Below you will find pictures of students reading some of their 'old storybook favorites' during partner read. Additionally, you will find pictures of students during writing workshop as they practice their sketching of the human face (Mrs. Magaw was our fabulous model!).
Every Friday, we play math games! Usually these games consist of games students have already learnt from our math program Everyday Math. These games strengthen students' foundational math skills in a fun way! Students began math games this week by familiarizing themselves with some of the math manipulatives that they will be using throughout the school year, such as dominoes, cubes, and attribute blocks.

All About Mrs. SpidleHello Nathaniel Morton families! My name is Mrs. Spidle and this is my third year teaching at Nathaniel Morton Elementary. Before I joined the fabulous team at NMES, I taught first grade at Federal Furnace for three years and kindergarten for six years at Sacred Heart. I love working with children and believe in cementing their love for learning at a young age. I have an undergraduate degree in early childhood education and a master's degree in reading education. As an early childhood educator, I love teaching all subjects, but my first love is reading! I believe in cultivating a love of reading in all of my students. I love to read, and am on a mission to have a community of motivated readers in my classroom! Archives
